Put The Cart Before The Horse ( 本末倒置 )

古時候馬匹最大的功用就是協助人類搬運貨物。 通常我們會將放置貨物的車輛掛在馬兒的後方 這樣它才能順利的拖運。但是如果把拖運貨物的車輛改放置在馬的前方，想想看這樣是不是位置相反，也就是我們說的本末倒置。所以要事情能夠順順利利照著原來的計劃進行，就請記得要 put the horse before the cart 而不是 put the cart before the horse. 本末倒置的結果不但吃力而且是事倍功半。

Bella: What are you doing, honey?

Andy: Oh, hi, dear. I am looking for my TV remote control.

Bella: TV remote control?

Andy: Yeah. It's the last episode of The Apprentice tonight. I don't want to miss it.

Bella: Doesn't you have to prepare and practice your annual presentation for next

morning?

Andy: I'll do it later.

Bella: Honey, I think you better quit looking your remote control but practicing now. First thing first. Don't put your cart before the horse . You'll be in big trouble if you drop the ball on annual presentation.

貝拉 : 親愛的，你在做甚麼？

安迪 : 喔，嗨，我正在找我的電視搖控器。

貝拉 : 電視搖控器？

安迪 : 是啊！今晚是誰是接班人最後一集，我不想錯過。

貝拉 : 你不是要為明天早上的年度簡報做準備和練習嗎？

安迪 : 我等一下再做。

貝拉 : 親愛的，我認為你最好是放棄尋找你的搖控器現在就去練習。 重要的事先做，別本末倒置。 如果年度簡報搞砸了，那你的麻煩可就大了。

Take a Leak (上洗手間)

平常的 toilet，bathroom，restroom，lavatory 當然都可以用，但英國人在日常生活對話中，最常說的肯定是 the loo。

另外，在朋友家中，我習慣說 the bathroom，因為好像較有禮貌。

英國人喜歡用 "the loo".

Where's the gets loo.(男厠)
Where's the ladies loo.(女厠)


上洗手間在美語用法中有很多種說法，其中最為口語的說法是 Take a leak 。 Leak 的意思是流出或漏出，把體內多餘的液體給排出去，也就是我們所說的上廁所。 每天多喝水再 Take a leak 對身體絕對是有好處。

中英例句：

Gina: OK, Frank. I am all set. Let's move.

Frank: Err…wait a minute.

Gina: Now what?

Frank: I just have to take a leak before we leave.

Gina: Then hurry up. The bus waits no man.

吉娜： 好了，法蘭克。 我準備就緒。 我們走吧。

法蘭克：阿 … 等一下。

吉娜： 又怎麼了？

法蘭克：我只是想在離開前去上個廁所。

吉娜： 那就請快一點。 巴士是不等人的。

Donations made to help the Taiwan typhoon victims

Dear colleagues, students and alumni,

Thank you for your support to our appeal to help the victims of Typhoon Morakot, which devastated Taiwan on 8 August. We have raised HK$100,000 from 14 August to 15 September, demonstrating ChineseU community’s compassion for the needy. I salute you for your generosity .

On 22 September, all proceeds were passed to Chung Hwa Travel Service, the official Taiwan representative office in Hong Kong, to help the victims rebuild their lives.

各位同事、同學及校友：
